A former Commander in the British Navy who'd been torpedoed  It starred John Cleese as irascible Torquay hotel owner Basil Fawlty, and Python team were staying at a hotel in Torquay called the Gleneagles (not to be  the Torquay hotel that was later to inspire him to create Fawlty Towers. The hotel in question was the Gleneagles Hotel (later to be mentioned in The Builders ),  Nov 27, 2015 John Cleese based the iconic sitcom on the Gleneagles Hotel in Torquay, Devon, after staying there with the Monty Python team in 1973.
